HELP & ADVISE CENTRE FAQ
6. What type of wood is used to make my frame?

When it comes to natural wood mouldings, we make use of an African hardwood called Obeche – otherwise known as Wawa. The wood originates from West Africa and serves as the general base for all frame construction locally. Obeche, in its natural form, has a soft cream tone that will darken slightly with age. It serves as a wonderful base for all show-grain and stain finishes and is often used in its natural form for a clean and light wood tone.
We also have several hardwoods available, namely: Kiaat; Maple; Ash; Beech; and Oak. These frame mouldings are available on request – Kiaat being the most readily available and popular option due to it’s warm and unique tones.
It is important to note that all hardwoods, as a natural product, can have tonal variations in wood colour.
