Designing Your First Photobook | Our Step By Step Guide For Beginners

Designing a photobook may seem like a daunting task, especially when you don’t consider yourself much of a designer. That’s why we’ve provided our customers with free and easy-to-use photobook software to make the design process easier. SEE HOW ››
With simple drag-and-drop functions, organised layouts, and beautiful designs, your photobook will be a stunner. We’ve put together some of our top tips and tricks to ensure that designing your first photobook is effortless.
Organise Your Content
In a world where it’s possible to take over 200 photographs a day on our smartphones, it may prove difficult to organise and sort through the thousands of images you may have stored on your digital devices. If you finish this part of the process first, the photobook layout will be an absolute breeze.
Create one folder to work from
Start by making one folder with copies of all the images you want to include in your photobook. This is far easier than working with photos saved in different locations.
Less is more
Remember that less is more. Be brutal and eliminate those similar-looking images; only include your best photographs. Using fewer images in your photobook means you can print them in larger sizes. It can be incredibly overwhelming looking at hundreds of small images in a book.
Numbering for a specific sequence
If your images come from different sources and need to be in a specific sequence, it is worth renaming them from 01 to (x) before designing your book. This will ensure that your images preview in the correct sequence in the Orms software when you import them and can be dragged and dropped in the correct sequence into the layout.
Transferring Images
If someone else is sending you images to use in your book, transfer them with a file transfer service like www.wetransfer.com so that the images are high resolution. Please note that images sent via Whatsapp are only a fraction of their original size and will print at low quality.
Pick Your Template
While you may have some beautiful images to include in your photobook, its look and feel are equally important. We have a collection of over 60 photobook designs for you to choose from. Each design includes beautiful graphics, trimmings, frames and patterns that will elevate your memories. You can also add extra graphics and design items as you go along.
You can click through all the themes to get a feel for what your photobook will look like and find the perfect theme to suit your style. We suggest using the blank template instead if you prefer a clean, minimalist look and feel. With the blank template, you can design the perfect photobook from scratch. We provide you with layout options, background designs, text and font options, and exciting graphics to bring your memories to life.

Add Some Text
You’re on the home stretch. This is your opportunity to add some lovely notes, cute anecdotes and other essential details that will complement your photographs. It’s an excellent way to add context to your images and create a well-rounded collection of your treasured memories.
TIP: If your book is text-heavy, create a word document with all your copy, format, and spell check it in Word before copying and pasting it into your photobook. This will save you time and prevent any spelling mistakes.
Finishing Touches
Double-check your layout, proofread text, and add some photo filters if you like. Also, remember to look out for low-resolution image warnings.

When your layout is completed, you can pay and order online in a few easy steps and let us do the rest. Production will take roughly 5 to 10 working days, dependent on the volume of orders.
